National Cut Your Energy Costs Day

Let’s make a resolution that we can all agree is a great one.  Cutting energy costs, while helping the environment!

Speaking of – did you know that today is National Cut Your Energy Costs Day?!  Really, it is, we didn’t just make that up. A simple way to cut your energy costs is by simply changing old incandescent light bulbs over to LED light bulbs.  If you haven’t done this yet, hopefully this information will help.

We are going to draw up a scenario.  Let’s assume you have 12 incandescent bulbs that are 75 watts each or on the other hand you had 12 LED bulbs that are all 9 watts each.

We will assume that you have your lights on 6 hours a day, 7 days a week.  We will use a baseline 6.6 cents / KWh. Your incandescent bulbs are putting out 900 watts, while the LED bulbs will put out 108 watts.  Under the 6 hours 7 days a week conditions your incandescent bulbs will have a lifespan of 6 months and 26 days, while the LED bulbs will have 22 years 9 months and 30 days.  You will replace a mind blowing 480 incandescent bulbs before you should have to replace one LED bulb. If you average that a standard 75 watt incandescent bulb is $1.75 approximately you will spend $21.02 more a year on replacing incandescent bulbs then on LED bulbs.  By using that 6.6 cents / KWh math and the wattage of the bulbs you would spend $131.09 per year on just lighting those 12 incandescent bulbs. Compared to the $15.61 per year you would use lighting your LED bulbs.

So your total annual cost on your incandescent bulb will be $151.11 per year, compared to the yearly cost of $15.61 for your LED bulb.  It’s a no brain money saver, not to mention how much less energy you are using.
